"If Muslim men like the veil so much, let them wear it"
"If Muslim men are so keen on seeing their headscarf introduced into Irish society, they should wear it as well as their women. Let them cover up, too.
Otherwise there must be no place for the hijab in civic life here. Not in banks, hospitals or libraries, not in the guards or civil service and most definitely not in schools."

I like the heading because thats how I feel sometimes. If men are so tempted by women and we must wear the Hijab, then who is to say that we are not tempted by men just as much. Perhaps they too should cover up. I constantly see men with their tops off, walking along the beach. All while I suffer in the heat, unable to enjoy my time there because of the leering, piercing gaze of the man!!
But in respects to this ridiculous article, I cannot believe what the author is saying here. Women have a right to wear their Hijab wherever they want, for whatever reason they want. It is not always forced on them to wear it. Perhaps women feel naked without it. I myself do not wear the Hijab. I'm still trying to find my arguement as to why, but I doubt there is one that exists that is acceptable.
Miss Devlins attitude on the matter is quite appaling, it's either the papers view point or what she was told to say. How can such a mainstream journalist or paper editor allow such a strong and uncompromising opinion, then allow it to be published.
In either regard where is her head at, does she propose freedom for some but not for those whose morals she disagrees with. Does she propose that in all the institutions she mentioned afore, that no one male or female should be allowed to wear any form of head dressing. No hat or scarf or wig or bandage or turban or many more which have not come to mind yet. Cancer patients may no longer go through their treatment and still be allowed in the work place wearing either a scarf tied back or a wig or whatever kind of small hat they feel will draw less attention to them than a glaring baldy head. Who is she anyway to be allowed to be so discriminating against her personal likes or dislikes, if it's ok for one type of human being to be allowed to wear any form of head dress for some valid reason whether in work place or school then it's acceptable for all.
Stop preaching freedom of speech in the press and then promoting your own brand of hypocrisy and disrimination. Then only thing I do agree with is that your face may not be covered when working in a situation where you deal with public, as this does cause mistrust from the start. Islam does not require covering of the face, those who do, have made a personal choice to do so, be it for themselves or husband or community, but it is not reqiured or considered a sin not to!!
